The most important thing to me about rigging up the sounder for the boat, a Simrad NSS9 evo2, was that the transducers should be easily and fully retractable. So often you see these boats tied up with the sterns sitting on the sand, and pretty much ever transducer you see on the boats up there sooner or later get smashed off because of this. If not from being pummelled into the sand, then being used as foot steps for guys to get onto the boat....the locals have no conception of the words fragile or delicate. And if they break it? well.... wan fela wori blong u. In english, thats your problem. So we mounted the twin transducers onto a sliding alli plate that can easily be slid up and down so HOPEFULLY the sounder, rather, the transducers, will last more than two or three months. Here's hoping! :-)
