Default Sitka 2017

Fished three days in Sitka on June 9,10,11. Weather was overcast the first day and it rained a little. But we limited on kings (only one per day) quickly:

and then went halibut fishing. We got some nice sized fish (about 30 lbs each) and then called it a day.

The weather was better the next day so we could see the scenery:

Once again, we got quick limits of kings. We went out a long way to get our halibut and some black cod (sablefish).

There were whales all around us. I couldn't get good pictures of the whales, but we could watch them surface and then breach all afternoon.

The third day was slower. We got limits of kings, but it took a while. A school would pass through and we'd get a couple hookups, usually losing one and catching one. After we got our salmon we went out for halibut. The halibut were also slow, and the weather was unpleasant - cold and drizzling. But we got the halibut and headed back to the dock.

It was a great trip, with salmon and halibut, along with black cod, to take home.

Thanks for the report Russell, and good going on the kings.

What outfit did you go with, and would you go with them again?

I go with these guys:

I have fished with them four times, and the group I go with has fished with them 15 years in a row.
