Default Aloha Spirit

I took a trip on the Aloha Spirit on Monday. The 2nd skipper, Pat, was running the boat. The Aloha is always booked up. I was lucky to snag a cancelation at the last minute. Passenger were informed we were going to target yellowtail. We had smallish anchovies in the tank and red crabs as well. We had to snag mackerel if we wanted a shot at the yellowtail. We got our macs and headed to Santa Cruz island to fish the Yellow Banks area. It was a parking lot at the banks. The fish were finicky. The majority on board did not how to fish the macs. You had to let the yellows mouth the macs before you swing. I went 3 for 3 on the yellows. By about 10AM the bite was over. We did a number of drifts for smallish rockfish to fill the bags. Headed to the barn at 2pm. The boat ended up with 8 yellowtail and rockfish. One of my yellows took the JP. I gave the JP back to the boat. Pat gave me a free re-ride ticket to come back in the future.

Little, firecracker yellows. But one was worth $190 JP and a re-ride.
